Computing systems

The Stony Brook Supercomputing Center supports a range of computational resources for the research community. The systems below are operated by SBSC and by Research Computing and Informatics, and each suits different work.

  • AMA27

    Stony Brook Supercomputing Center

    In development

    AMA27 is a National Science Foundation funded system led by the Institute for Advanced Computational Science in partnership with the University at Buffalo, under the award Sustainable Cyber-infrastructure for Expanding Participation. It is built to widen access to research computing for artificial intelligence work and other computationally demanding science, and to do so sustainably. Access will extend to researchers, students and educators nationwide, alongside high performance computing training for students at Stony Brook.

  • SeaWulf III

    Research Computing and Informatics

    Available to campus and Brookhaven Lab staff

    The current generation of the SeaWulf cluster, adding GPU nodes and high bandwidth memory nodes to the general purpose pool.

  • SeaWulf II

  • Ookami

    Institute for Advanced Computational Science

    Retired 2025

    A National Science Foundation testbed for future supercomputing technology, and the first computer outside Japan built on the Fujitsu A64FX processor. Ookami left service at the end of 2025. The project record is kept for reference and citation.
